Applecross Senior High expands business program

APPLECROSS ● 2 July 1991

Applecross Senior High School expanded its business education program after receiving new computers and electronic typewriters through a school grant.

The school's business education department received a classroom full of Nimrod AT Turbo computers, purchased with the grant, while the department also hoped to sell surplus electronic typewriters.

The new equipment was intended to give Year 12 students experience using technology they were likely to encounter after leaving school.

The short intensive course included nine lessons over three weeks and was designed to provide students with typing skills needed for assignments, a requirement at most universities.

The course was also available to past Applecross Senior High School students.

The department was negotiating with TAFE for a licence allowing it to teach the Certificate of Office and Secretarial Studies course. If approved, students could remain at the school until Year 12 and receive both their school graduation and a TAFE certificate.

The school said the qualification would provide students with employment skills while also allowing them to continue further education.
