Defence work boosts Bentley Technology Park

BENTLEY ● 25 June 1991

Growth in WA's defence manufacturing industry was providing a significant boost to Technology Park in Bentley, with Australian Defence Industries (ADI) opening a new Perth facility at the park.

Swan MHR Kim Beazley said 42 companies were operating at Technology Park and employing more than 650 people, including workers with skills used to develop technologies important to the defence industry.

The park had been established six years earlier and was providing significant employment for local people, with businesses in the Swan electorate benefiting from money spent by companies operating there.

ADI, described as Australia's largest defence manufacturer, said the new facility reflected the strength of defence manufacturing in WA and its contribution to the company's operations.

ADI managing director Ken Harris said the company intended to expand its Perth operations. Staff were already involved in work on the Royal Australian Navy's maritime intelligence systems terminal and the Australian Army's electronic warfare command and processing subsystem.

Through the Bentley facility, ADI was also tendering for an Australian Army tactical command and support system in collaboration with Perth-based Clough Engineering and E-Systems of the United States.
