Dianella Maryville Aged Care

The Maryville Homes were a collection of three duplex-style blocks located at 322 Grand Promenade, Dianella that were demolished in January 2022. They were built by Catholic Cottage Homes for the Aged Inc., with the guidance and support of His Grace, the Most Reverend Redmond Prendiville. The homes officially opened on 28 January 1966, marking an important step in providing community-led aged care in Perth. Designed as duplex units, they offered comfortable, home-like accommodation for older residents in a suburban setting.

The project reflected a growing recognition of the need for quality housing for elderly people. Over time, Catholic Cottage Homes for the Aged Inc. evolved, becoming known as Catholic Homes in 1975. Since then, the organisation has expanded its services, developing a range of aged care and retirement living facilities across Perth and Bunbury.

Residential Development

In April 2021, a development application was lodged with the City of Stirling to redevelop the site into 40 aged or dependent dwellings. The proposal was approved in June 2021, although an application has since been lodged to extend the timeframe, delaying the start of construction. In the meantime, the vacant block remains fenced off and unused.

The planned redevelopment will transform the 4,996m² site into a $10 million project featuring a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, focused on social and affordable housing (p.30) for older residents. The land is owned by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth, with community housing provider Stella Living Ltd (operated by Centrecare) granted a 30-year lease agreement, with options to extend.
