About Me: Delphine Jamet
I’m Delphine Jamet, a Perth urban historian, photographer and the person behind Streetkid Industries.
I research and photograph places across Perth and Western Australia, from abandoned buildings and industrial sites to suburban shops, coastal landmarks and former military installations. I’m interested in what these places were used for, the people connected to them and what remains today.
Through my Perth History Database, I bring together historical research and my own photography to make this information easier to find and understand. This involves working through newspaper articles, maps, photographs, government records and reports, then piecing together the history of each location. Where information is uncertain or accounts differ, I try to make that clear.
I have more than 15 years of experience in records and archives. That background informs how I research places, check sources and organise the material I collect.
Photography is a large part of what I do. I document buildings, interiors, machinery and the smaller details that can disappear through demolition, redevelopment or deterioration. My research also continues beyond the photograph, looking into how a place developed and how its use changed over time.
My ongoing projects include documenting East Perth Power Station and Rottnest Island. I also contribute to Abandoned Western Australia on Facebook, sharing photographs and information about places around the state.
Streetkid Industries brings together my history work and other interests developed over the years, including writing, BMX racing, journalism, books, illustration and video editing. You can find more of these projects in my portfolio.
I want people to be able to look up a place they’ve passed for years, visited as a child or seen in a photograph and learn something about it. Much of this work involves details scattered across different sources. Bringing them together and making them available is why I keep doing it.
