10 - Bassendean Duffy Street Warehouse

Bassendean Duffy Street Warehouse

Two Bassendean warehouses were in the process of being demolished in July 2022, when I managed to photograph what remained.

4 Duffy Street

GHEMS (Holdings) were located in the second warehouse on the right on a 2,168m2 block. Their warehouse was built in 1984 and there are no sales history listed on any of the real estate websites that I could find.

GHEMS are a Western Australian family-owned business of 35 years, providing environmental consulting, management and services in the specialised fields of revegetation, native seed collection & supply, natural area management, weed control, environmental consulting and hydromulching & hydroseeding.

They have moved to a new warehouse location only a few streets away on a much bigger block of land.

6 Duffy Street

ECL Group/FuelQuip were the first warehouse on the left, located at number six Duffy Street. Situated on a 2,176sqm block, the warehouse was built in 1987 and first sold for $1,523,500 in August 2021. Two months later, it was sold again for the same price in October.

Fuel Equipment Services, which appear to be a company name for these premises, was first registered on 29 June 1996 and cancelled on 13 December 2020. The only registered business name for FuelQuip is based in South Australia, being registered on 05 March 2021.

The earliest archived website for Fuelquip is dated 28 May 2002. Information displayed on the homepage states that Fuelquip, a division of Tyco Services, was formed from the merger between Email Petroleum Systems, Burnco, Fuelquip Industries (WA) and Fuelquip Services (NZ).

They describe themselves as specialist suppliers to the petroleum industry, offering traditional services together with management systems for commercial and industrial applications. This includes the installation and servicing of above & underground fuel storage systems, pipelines & associated equipment, fuel pumps & dispensers as well as self-service equipment.

By 06 March 2005, the website redirects to ECL Group in New Zealand. Information displayed on their homepage state they consist of six operating companies, providing a range of installation and maintenance servics across Australasia. The companies that form the ECL Group include: Fuelquip New Zealand, ECL Fuelquip Australia, ECL Security, ECL Electronics, Supalite and Specialist Monitoring Services.

A search of ECL Group Australia shows that it was registered as a business name in Dandenong South, Victoria with a NSW address being listed for service of documents. The Holder Name is Fuelquip Australia Pty Ltd. Two other registered business names for ECL Group Australia were located in Rydalmere NSW and Acacia Ridge QLD, both showing as cancelled.

Development Applications

There are no development applications listed for either properties on PlanWA but a listing for both properties on the City of Bassendean's website, shows that their building applications were determined in November 2021. Both had 'full demolition of commercial site' approved. A brief search of any further information was not found.
