Donald Trump Says He Deserves Nobel Peace Prize Ahead of 2026 Announcement

USA ● 09 October 2026

US President Donald Trump has renewed his claim that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize ahead of the announcement of the 2026 recipient by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said he was uncertain whether he would receive the award, suggesting the committee might be reluctant to recognise him.

Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly argued that his involvement in international conflicts and diplomatic negotiations makes him deserving of the prize. He claimed to have intervened in eight conflicts during his second presidential term.

Trump also referred to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize and subsequently presented her medal to him in January 2026 while seeking American support for her political efforts in Venezuela.

Leaders from Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have publicly stated that they nominated Trump for the award, although the Nobel Committee does not disclose nominations.

Despite his claims, several major international conflicts remain unresolved. Russia's war in Ukraine has continued despite Trump's earlier promise to end it immediately upon returning to office.

The United States and Israel have also carried out military strikes against Iran, contributing to an ongoing regional conflict that has disrupted international energy supplies.

Other names discussed as possible recipients of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize included Pope Leo XIV, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee was scheduled to announce the recipient on 9 October 2026.
