Old Cargo warehouse becomes Metropolis nightclub
FREMANTLE ● June 1991
Fremantle's former Old Cargo warehouse was transformed into a new nightclub called Metropolis, following a $1.5 million restoration of the building.
The venue contained nine bars across six different levels, with the interior using red, blue and black finishes, metallic balustrades and fittings. A split-level design allowed patrons to watch bands from different parts of the venue.
The article described the former warehouse as having been dramatically transformed into an upmarket nightclub, although it still included a quieter area away from the main crowds where patrons could sit with a coffee.
Metropolis had already hosted performances by the Black Sorrows and Hoodoo Gurus, with Little River Band and Suzi Quatro scheduled to perform during June.
