Police called to disturbance at Bentley juvenile centre

BENTLEY ● 2 July 1991

Police were called to Longmore Juvenile Remand Centre in Bentley after a disturbance involving a group of seven juveniles.

The incident lasted about half an hour and began when trouble erupted among the juveniles working in the centre's kitchen.

Staff remained outside the room while the boys ran amok, damaging the kitchen and equipment.

About 12 police attended and quickly restored order.

Community Services Department acting metropolitan region director Bill Budiselik said staff had been waiting for police to arrive and described the disturbance as not a major incident or an unusual procedure.

Budiselik said he did not yet know the full extent of the damage, but believed not all of the boys in the room had been involved. He said charges would be laid against offenders once authorities determined what had happened.
