COMO The Treasury Hotel
Thanks to the incredible team at COMO The Treasury Hotel, I had the privilege of photographing its stunning public spaces.
I arrived armed with two old plans showing a proposed tunnel connection between the Law Chambers (the former Land Titles Office on Hay Street) and the Trustee Building. The hotel staff were particularly interested in these, keen to receive a copy for their own reference. As a result, I was granted special permission to photograph many of the building’s remarkable heritage features, as well as the changes made during its transformation into a six-star hotel following its 2015 restoration.
A few days later, it was confirmed with the Site Manager, who had overseen the redevelopment. He confirmed that, despite thorough checks, no tunnel was ever constructed. The tell-tale clue? The drawings I had were labelled “Preliminary Print Only”, something I should have picked up on, having worked with early-stage building plans myself.
COMO The Treasury is a beautiful hotel where no detail has been overlooked. The public areas, masterfully restored by Kerry Hill Architects, preserve the building’s original character — from the intricate ceramic staircases to the delicate plasterwork adorning the ceilings. It’s a rare example of modern luxury seamlessly blending with historical charm.
