Cottesloe 6 Salvado Street
The two apartment buildings at 6 and 8 Salvado Street, Cottesloe, were constructed in 1963 on adjoining 912m² properties near the beach end of the street. Each building contained six apartments, giving the two sites a combined total of 12 dwellings.
The buildings were similar in design, with two levels of rendered apartments, external concrete stairs and walkways, metal railings and separate rows of garages behind them. Some apartments retained timber floors, older internal doors and other parts of the original 1960s construction, while others had been modernised over the years.
Purchase of the apartments
The apartments were progressively purchased during 2025 as part of the Forrest family’s continued acquisition of property around Salvado Street. Recorded sales included several apartments changing hands for approximately $1.65 million each.
The properties are controlled through Fiveight, the property division of Andrew and Nicola Forrest’s private investment group, Tattarang. Fiveight also controls the nearby heritage-listed Le Fanu mansion, which Andrew Forrest purchased in 2022.
The combined redevelopment
Rather than redeveloping 6 and 8 Salvado Street separately, Fiveight combined the two properties for a single residential proposal. A development application was lodged in April 2026 for the demolition of both apartment buildings and the construction of eight new dwellings across the combined site.
The $10.5 million proposal was prepared by Kerry Hill Architects. It includes two one-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom apartments, spread across two residential levels above basement parking. The basement provides 14 resident parking bays, a visitor bay, apartment storerooms, bicycle parking, plant rooms and a shared bin store.
The plans also include a common private garden, covered terraces, landscaped areas, two lifts and separate pedestrian entrances. Although the properties are being treated as one development, the drawings show a future subdivision boundary running between the two sides of the site.
Planning approval
The proposal was lodged as DAP/26/03091 because its value and scale placed the decision with the Metro Inner Development Assessment Panel rather than the Town of Cottesloe alone.
The panel approved the eight-apartment proposal in August 2026. The official documents refer to it as the 6-8 Salvado Street development.
Demolition
Both of the 1963 apartment buildings were demolished in August 2026, to make way for the eight-dwelling Fiveight development.
