Leopold Hotel

As always, another piece of our history is pending demolition so greedy foreign-owned developers can make a profit. Whatever you think about The Leopold Hotel, it's symbolic, representing our history and just another historic building disappearing from our streets.

Take a drive down almost any main road or busy highway and it's the same story. Concrete crap going up left, right and centre while another old building comes down. There are plenty of vacant blocks and countless uncharacteristic properties that could take this sort of development instead, yet it's nearly always our historic places that get sacrificed.

Nothing ever seems to be done to genuinely protect our history. Our governments haven't represented the public interest for a helluva long time. They talk about heritage but when money and development come knocking, history almost always loses.
