Attadale Latter Day Saints Church
Constructed in around 1965, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ (Melville Ward) was also home to the Melville Family History Centre.
From the early 1960s until 2010, local Latter-day Saints worshipped there, while the attached family history centre drew in family researchers from across Perth to use the Church’s genealogical records.
Many of the wards in Perth’s inner-metro areas were closing or shrinking, largely because rising housing costs were pushing members further out into the suburbs.
After the Melville Ward merged with the Como and Canning (now Jandakot) Wards, the 4,046m² block (with its chapel and large carpark) was sold to a private developer in July 2021 for $4,050,000. At the time of the sale, another of the Church’s wards that had closed around the same time, was also still awaiting disposal.
In 2024, a new development for a childcare centre and single dwelling was approved by the Metro Inner DAP. The approval saw the demolition of the church buildings, which took place in December 2024.
