Applecross Aurora Apartments

In 2017, a development application was lodged for 452 multiple dwellings and nine ground floor commercial tenancies. It would see the construction of three towers with one being 30-storeys tall and the other two at 26-storeys.

 

Stage 1 – Sabrina Apartments

Developed by Finbar with Hanssen appointed as the builder, the $124m 30-storeys tall Sabina Apartments was due to be constructed with 173 apartments, although this seems to have later been downsized to 164 apartments. Prices ranged from $410,000 to $1.6m and was the third high-rise development in the Canning Bridge precinct at the time.

 

Amenities included a 25m heated pool, residents lounge with a bar, gym, sauna, wellness room, games room, music room, winter garden, electric car charging station and a car wash bay.

 

Site works began mid-2018 and an MC310K16 tower crane with a 70m jib, at a height of a 47.5m, was installed on 10-11 December 2018.  Upon being jacked for a third time, the final height of the tower crane stood at 108.7m on 19 October 2019.

 

Climbing down the MC310K16 to a dismantle height of 45.7m took place on 13-14 January 2020 with dismantling the remaining structure being completed on 27 January.

 

Three months later on 27 March 2020, Finbar released a media statement to mark the completion of the Sabina Apartments, which had to date achieved $60.5m of sales as a result of 50% pre-sold.

 

Stage 2 – Aurora Applecross

Owned by Applecross Development Pty Ltd, who was first registered as an Australian Private Company on 4 June 2010, they are also known as Applecross Pty Ltd, Applecross PL, Applecross Capital Pty Ltd and Applecross Energy Pty Ltd.

 

With site works starting sometime around February 2022, Hanssen was once again engaged by Finbar Group Ltd to construct Aurora Applecross, at a cost of $158.5m. It was set to contain 118 residential apartments (starting from $455k), retail and commercial spaces. Residential floors up to level 20 would incorporate six apartments, which would decrease to four apartments for every floor between levels 21-24.

 

Amenities included Finbar’s trademark resort-style amenities, focusing on luxuries like private wellness zones with massage beds, a fully equipped gym, spa and sauna. Residents would also enjoy a poolside cabana looking out at the 22m pool, relax in the Jacaranda Lounge, host private dinners in the Grand Room and watch movies in the private cinema.

 

The same MC310K16 tower crane was installed on 30 March 2022 at a free standing height of 51.8m with a 55m jib. It was planned to jack the crane to 76.1m and then to a final height of 97.1m before being dismantled sometime in mid-2024.

 

Aurora Applecross’ grand opening was celebrated on 1 November 2024.
