West Perth 4 Cleaver Street
The building at 4 Cleaver Street, West Perth was constructed in 1928, although very little information about its original purpose or early occupants has been identified.
Research has proven difficult, largely because historical maps dating back to atleast 1918 record the location as "S49½", rather than a street address, making it a challenge to trace its early history and ownership. The property does not have a documented heritage history and very little references exist.
E. G. Woolcott
A 1945 newspaper article identified 4 Cleaver Street as the office address of E. G. Woolcott, a Western Australian haulage contractor, with Colin E. Varian employed as the company's manager.
Ernest George Woolcott
Ernest Woolcott was a businessman, former Claremont Football Club premiership player and World War II serviceman who established his haulage business in 1945. By 1949, newspaper advertisements record the company as "Haulage Contractors and Shipping Agents”.
Tenants
Over time, the building has accommodated a range of commercial tenants. Previous occupants have included Club Red Cars and Complete Body Approach, while today it is tenanted by Uniq Moves Training.
