Battery Observation Post
1942
The Battery Observation Post (BOP), being built in the vicinity of a gun position, was moved into the three storey Fortress and Battery Command Post at Signal Ridge. The top floor was for the Oliver Hill Battery Observation Post, the middle floor for the Fortress Observation Post and the lower floor occupied by other fire control personnel and a signals group using both wireless and telephone communications. The building was offered referred to as “Queen Anne’s Mansion”.
1942
February 21 – Instructions are received from the Deputy Chief Engineer to erect a timber framed wall (bund) to serve as blast protection around the Battery Observation Post on Signal Ridge (AWM2020.71.2725).
1942
March 30 – Work on the bund around the Battery Observation Post at Signal Ridge commenced (AWM2020.71.2725).
April 29 – The bund around the Battery Observation Post at Signal Ridge is completed (AWM2020.71.2725)
2009
The three-storey combined fortress, battery observation post and signal station on Signal Ridge as well, as the associated WRANS cottages are all restored and maintained, although they aren’t open to the public. The former WRANS quarters are currently in use as accommodation for visitors and RIA staff.
