Comnee Apartments

Located at 168 Broadway in Crawley, the Comnee Apartments were designed by the renowned architectural firm Krantz and Sheldon, featuring 18 units spread across three storeys.

Built in 1963, the apartments reflected the modern, practical design approach typical of Perth’s post-World War II building boom. Krantz and Sheldon were known for championing affordable housing with clean, minimalist designs. Their projects often included built-in furniture, integrated kitchens, and shared communal spaces—features that made Comnee Apartments a standout example of the era.

Despite their architectural significance, the apartments were never granted statutory heritage protection.

Following the sale of the property from M Cube Emerald Properties Pty Ltd to Edge Visionary Living between 2021 and 2022, demolition was approved on 21 November 2022, and the building was demolished just a month later.

Edge Visionary Living is now overseeing a $20 million redevelopment on the site, known as Broadway on the Bay and designed by Hillam Architects. The new project features a nine-storey building with 21 apartments—interestingly, just three more than the original complex.
