Beaconsfield Challenger TAFE
April 2022
The State Government announced plans to redevelop the former Challenger TAFE campus in Beaconsfield as a mixed-use precinct. Occupying approximately 3.8 hectares, the site was proposed to accommodate a combination of residential, commercial and community uses following the closure of the educational facility.
Early plans indicated that the redevelopment would include a range of housing types, including affordable housing, together with community facilities, public open space and commercial premises such as cafés and restaurants. Detailed planning and design work for the project was still underway at the time of the announcement.
The proposal formed part of a broader State Government strategy to redevelop surplus government land and increase housing supply. The announcement also marked the end of the site’s long history as a vocational education campus, which had previously provided training in fields including construction, carpentry, business and hospitality.
