Nedlands 93 Bloom House
(Yes... everything you see in these photos went to the tip... as always!)

Built in 1926, this four bedroom house on a 1,765m² block sold on December 3, 2019 for $2,650,000.
Along with neighbouring property at no.95, it was demolished in April 2022 to make way for the future Bloom Residences apartment, which will see the construction of a six storey mixed use development comprising of 38 apartments and an office.

The 74 year old female resident died in 2022. It appears that she and her husband submitted a development application to develop their land alongside with the neighbouring property which is owned by a company in NSW. It was supported by eight people and opposed by 119. It may be the case that Blueways Group bought out the development or are just spearheading it.

There appears to have been three other family members who were living at the residence, with one of them owning a rental unit on Stirling Highway, which was recently sold in May 2024.

Heritage Listing
Inherit states that the house was adopted in the Municipal Inventory on 15 April 1999 but that means jack now that it’s demolished.
The original owners lived there for 38 years before three other residents came and went. Its style of build is described by inHerit as an example of “Inter-War California Bungalow architectural design” and they go on to cite the usual overused words such as “aesthetic, historic and representative cultural heritage significance”.
It’s hard to imagine anyone would think twice when reading those words, since they seem to be used to describe just about every listing in the inHerit database.

Development Application
The development application was approved at the Metro West Joint Development Assessment Panel on 14 September 2020 but the site continues to be a vacant block of land, just like as many as 100 other approved developments around the Perth metropolitan area.
The first development application, lodged on 15 May 2020, was approved in September 2020 at a cost of $13m. Since then, another development application was lodged on 13 July 2023 at a cost of $31m and the decision is still pending. In a three hour meeting that was held on 11 June 2024, the Development Assessment Panel was unable to make a decision.

Jardin Residences
Blueways Group is spearheading the Bloom Residences development, alongside their other development known as Jardin Residences Nedlands. Located a few houses down at 87 and 89 Broadway, it was approved on 10 September 2024 at a cost of $31.5m. Like Bloom Residences, Jardin will consist of 38 residences with the usual mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments and although they’ve been designed differently on the outside, the interior is almost identical.
