Machine Gun Emplacement
In April 1943, the 116 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment (AIF) - B1 Section took over from the 173 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment and were based at Mud Lake, where these photos were taken.
This machine gun emplacement was for an Anti Aircraft Light Machine Gun with a fire trench behind for shelter.
Light machine guns could be operated by a single infantryman with or without an assistant and a times, were manned by a single piquet, who resided in small temporary military posts away from the main formation.
