Perth to host 2027 Rugby World Cup matches

$13 million commercial centre redesigned
Changes to the planned East Landsdale commercial centre have been approved, including a significantly larger medical centre and new childcare centre. The Alexander Drive and Landsdale Road development was originally approved in January 2023.

Geisha Bar temporarily closed
Geisha Bar has temporarily closed after structural damage was discovered in part of the venue’s roof. The Northbridge nightclub, which has operated since 1999, will remain closed while the damage is assessed and repaired.

Major retailers have renewed calls for WA’s restricted shopping hours to be relaxed, particularly Sunday trading. The State Government has rejected changes, arguing current restrictions help protect small businesses.

Claremont RSL finds new home
Claremont RSL has secured a new home at Claremont Showground after four years without permanent premises following the closure of Claremont Bowling Club in 2022. The move also restores the RSL’s historic connection with the showground dating back to World War I.

$165 million primary school contract awarded
CPB Contractors has been awarded the main construction contract for the new $165 million East Perth Primary School. The vertical campus will accommodate 600 students, with capacity for a further 200, and is expected to open in Term 1, 2029.

Floreat Toy Library faces closure
Floreat Toy Library has refused a new two-year lease at its council-owned Lawler Park premises, saying increased City of Nedlands charges are unaffordable. The volunteer-run toy library has operated in Floreat under a shared lease arrangement for more than 40 years.

Fremantle Traffic Bridge nearing completion
The new Fremantle Traffic Bridge could open before Christmas, earlier than its previous early-2027 schedule. The four major construction cranes, temporary jetties and bridge tower scaffolding have now been removed, with remaining works including sealing, asphalting, signage and street lighting.

Ferry terminal safety concerns raised
A marine safety expert has warned the proposed Matilda Bay ferry terminal could increase the risk of serious injury or death to vulnerable river users due to conflicts with ferries. He identified nearby Nedlands Jetty as a safer option, while the State Government says the risks can be appropriately managed.

Three Points Bridge proposal revived
Nedlands mayor Leonie Browner has called for the shelved Three Points Bridge proposal to be reconsidered to help address future transport demand from increased housing density. The 1.5km pedestrian and cycling bridge linking Nedlands, Bicton and Mosman Park was first proposed in 2016 but never funded.

Woolworths preparing to open at Captain Stirling
Woolworths is preparing to open its new Captain Stirling Shopping Centre supermarket by the end of September. The store will open about 900m from the long-running Taylor Road IGA, which has operated in Nedlands for 25 years.

Two ageing rail bridges to be replaced
The Congdon Street rail bridge in Swanbourne and Sutherland Street bridge in West Perth are set to be replaced at a combined cost of almost $90 million. Congdon Street works are expected to begin in 2027, while the $50 million Sutherland Street bridge is planned for installation in January 2028.

New Fremantle Traffic Bridge opening early
The new Fremantle Traffic Bridge will officially open on 1 November 2026, several months ahead of schedule. A community event will allow people to walk across the bridge before it opens to traffic that evening.

Fishing platform upgrade begins
The northern breakwater fishing platform at Hillarys Boat Harbour has closed for a $1.2 million upgrade, including an extension, wheelchair stops and fishing rod holders. It is expected to reopen in early November.

Construction begins on 174-apartment build-to-rent tower
Construction has begun on DevelopmentWA’s 30-storey, 174-apartment build-to-rent project on Roe Street. The apartments will provide social and affordable housing and will ultimately be sold to a community housing provider.

WA’s major brick supplier Midland Brick has introduced purchase limits as shortages expand from face bricks to maxi bricks. Builders have warned the supply constraints could delay housing construction and place further financial pressure on the industry.

Perth Children’s Hospice completed
Construction of Perth’s first children’s hospice in Swanbourne has been completed after years of planning disputes. Landscaping of neighbouring Allen Park remains outstanding, with efforts underway to expedite planting of about 7,500 donated plants.

Sonas childcare centre closes suddenly
Sonas Early Learning and Care has immediately closed its Wanneroo Central centre after its landlord took possession of the premises following failed lease negotiations. The 86-place centre had been operating below capacity.

Mill Green masterplan revised
GDI Property has lodged a revised masterplan to combine 197 St Georges Terrace, 5 Mill Street and 1 Mill Street into a single Mill Green commercial precinct. The proposal includes staged refurbishment and redevelopment of the three sites.

New primary school officially named
The $45.5 million Alkimos Sands Primary School has been officially named as construction continues in Alkimos Vista Estate. The new school will accommodate up to 540 students from kindergarten to Year 6.

Station Master’s House remains vacant
Claremont’s 1886 Station Master’s House remains vacant after a second attempt to find a tenant attracted no applications. The heritage-listed railway station building was previously offered for lease in July 2025.

Construction begins on major public open space
Work has started on a 4.8ha public open space at the Kinmore Green estate in Darch. The project will include sports fields, cricket nets, basketball and netball facilities, a playground, exercise equipment and picnic areas.

Government defends ferry terminal location
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti has defended plans to proceed with the Matilda Bay ferry terminal despite an independent report finding greater safety risks than the alternative Nedlands site. She said the identified risks would be managed through the terminal’s design and operation.

Mini golf course proposed at Mindarie Marina
Plans have been lodged for a 14-hole mini golf course on vacant land at Mindarie Marina. The venue would accommodate up to 60 patrons and operate daily from 9am to 9pm.

The estimated cost of the Ocean Reef Marina development has increased to $325 million, up from $272.3 million and its original $120 million estimate in 2017. The first 13 residential lots are due to be released for sale next week.

McCorkell Constructions WA has been awarded an $11.5 million contract to build 19 social homes in a three-storey complex in Stirling. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2028.

Children’s Hospice landscaping plans progress
Nedlands Council has held a special meeting to finalise plans for parklands adjoining Perth’s new Children’s Hospice at Allen Park. Construction of the hospice itself has now been completed.

Surf Life Saving Club upgrades completed
A $300,000 upgrade of the Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club has been completed, including improvements to the alfresco and administration areas, refurbishment of the training room and creation of a new meeting room.

EQWest completion date remains unclear
The completion date for the long-delayed EQWest development at Elizabeth Quay remains uncertain amid an ongoing contractual dispute. Work has continued at the site, which includes what will become Perth’s fourth-tallest tower.

Yanchep Lagoon foreshore plan faces opposition
Residents have opposed plans for a coastal boardwalk as part of the $43.5 million Yanchep Lagoon foreshore redevelopment. The management plan proposes staged works through to 2030, with residents arguing previously required boardwalk design conditions have not yet been addressed.

Rocky Bay redevelopment plans revealed
Curtin Heritage Living has revealed plans for a 12-storey apartment complex with commercial and community spaces as part of its redevelopment of the former Rocky Bay site at 60 McCabe Street. The project forms part of a proposed $450 million redevelopment of the 2.8ha site.

Parking fee concession approved for major development
Developers of the mixed-use hotel and apartment project at 10–40 Bay View Terrace have been granted reduced construction parking fees, after daily bay charges doubled from $50 to $100. The concession reduces the expected parking cost from more than $1.1 million to $500,000.

WA’s first 24/7 mental health crisis centre opens
WA’s first dedicated 24/7 mental health crisis centre has opened as part of the $88.1 million Fremantle Hospital expansion. The redevelopment adds 40 mental health beds, including a new neurobehavioural unit and 20-bed secure mental health ward.

Oscar’s in the Valley closes
Family-owned restaurant Oscar’s in the Valley has closed immediately and entered liquidation after a prolonged period of financial difficulty. Owner Justin Hughes said the business was no longer financially viable.
24 - MOSMAN PARK
Construction to begin on first stage of Glyde Street town centre redevelopment
The Town of Mosman Park will commence the first stage of its Glyde Street redevelopment on 29 September 2026, following delays obtaining construction materials. The $200,000 works will include new paving, garden beds, landscaping and bicycle racks along the northern side of Glyde Street between Stirling Highway and Monument Street. Completion is expected by the end of October, with further improvements planned and roadway reconstruction scheduled for 2027–28.

Westwood Apartments development granted extension until September 2030
The Development Assessment Panel has approved a four-year extension for Griffin Group's six-storey Westwood Apartments development at 135 Broadway, Nedlands. The project comprises 16 apartments and a ground-floor office tenancy on an 880m² site. Revised plans increase the building height from 20.8m to 21.3m and modify basement parking arrangements. Originally approved in 2020 and revised in 2022, the development has yet to commence construction.

$130 million, 27-storey The Tide apartment development approved on West Coast Highway
The Statutory Planning Committee has approved Meadpoint's $130 million, 27-storey build-to-rent development at 200 West Coast Highway, Scarborough. Replacing the existing three-storey The Tide complex, the project will provide 246 apartments, including 37 affordable rentals, along with commercial space and a public pocket park. The approval exceeds the area's 18-storey bonus height limit despite objections from the City of Stirling and residents. Construction has not yet commenced.

Above-ground construction begins on The Dunes beachfront apartment development
Above-ground construction commenced in August 2026 on The Dunes, a luxury residential development at the northern end of Scarborough Beach. Developed by Edge Visionary Living and designed by Hillam Architects, the project comprises two apartment towers known as East and West, containing one-, two- and three-bedroom residences and penthouses. The development received the Best Waterfront Development in Australia award at the 2025 PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards.

Claremont Aquatic Centre redevelopment planning delayed following budget shortfall
The Town of Claremont has postponed its Aquatic Centre masterplan after consultant quotes were received at up to four times the original $50,000 budget. The project will instead be considered as part of a proposed recreational precinct along Davies Road, incorporating Lake Claremont, the tennis club and golf course. Council has also increased funding for the Claremont Park masterplan to $150,000 and its parks strategy to $55,000, with further budget considerations scheduled for early 2027.

Fremantle council opposes rezoning of 23-hectare Port Beach development precinct
The City of Fremantle has voted to oppose the proposed rezoning of 23 hectares of industrial land near Port Beach for urban development. Councillors endorsed a 51-page submission to the WA Planning Commission, citing unresolved coastal erosion risks, inadequate public transport planning and insufficient community consultation. The council also called for Port Beach Road to be relocated and for further assessment of proposed seawalls and groynes before the rezoning proceeds.

WA Planning Commission endorses Wanneroo's long-term planning strategy for 150,000 additional residents
The WA Planning Commission's Statutory Planning Committee endorsed the City of Wanneroo's first local planning strategy on 23 September 2026. The strategy forecasts approximately 150,000 additional residents and 57,000 new dwellings by 2041, with most growth concentrated in Two Rocks, Yanchep, Alkimos, Eglinton and East Wanneroo. It also identifies increased residential density, employment areas and future transport infrastructure while acknowledging that urban expansion will gradually displace agricultural activities in East Wanneroo and Carabooda. Individual developments remain subject to separate approvals.

Construction to begin on $1 billion-plus Parron Maam Marang Wind Farm
Atmos Renewables has reached a final investment decision on the Parron Maam Marang Wind Farm near Badgingarra, allowing construction to commence. The project will comprise 78 turbines with a combined generating capacity of 470 megawatts. Supported by electricity purchase agreements with Synergy and the Federal Government's Capacity Investment Scheme, the development forms part of WA's transition away from State-owned coal-fired power generation by 2030.
04 - COTTESLOE
Cottesloe foreshore redevelopment to begin in July 2027 amid $20 million funding shortfall
Stage one of the Cottesloe foreshore redevelopment is scheduled to begin in July 2027, replacing the existing 120-bay carpark with landscaped public spaces, terraced seating and an event plaza. The $15 million first stage is expected to be completed by summer 2028, while the overall project, now estimated to exceed $35 million, remains approximately $20 million short of funding.

Structure and façade completed at $195 million Pier Street housing development
The structure and façade of the State Government's $195 million, 29-storey development at 195 Pier Street have been completed. The project will deliver 219 long-term rental apartments, including social, affordable and market rentals. Internal fit-outs are continuing, with the development expected to be completed in 2026.
06 - HENDERSON
$25 billion naval expansion raises concerns over construction workforce shortages
The redevelopment of the Australian Marine Complex and nearby naval facilities is expected to require approximately 10,000 workers, including construction of a $4.3 billion dry dock and facilities supporting AUKUS submarines. The project could consume three times Perth's annual residential concrete demand, raising concerns about skilled labour shortages and competition with housing, mining and infrastructure projects.
06 - KARRINYUP
Construction begins on Blackburne's $500 million West Village development
Construction has commenced on Blackburne Group's $500 million West Village development in Karrinyup, following repeated delays since its approval in 2022. Multiplex has been appointed to build the 253-apartment project, with completion now scheduled for 2029, approximately seven years after some buyers signed their original contracts.
07 - WAGERUP
Civmec awarded construction contract for Alcoa's gallium processing plant
Henderson-based Civmec has secured the contract to construct Alcoa's new gallium processing plant at Wagerup, including processing facilities, laboratories, tanks and supporting infrastructure. Approved in July 2026, the project is expected to support up to 200 construction jobs and approximately 20 permanent positions once operational.
07 - WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Telstra launches Perth–Sydney fibre link as part of $1.8 billion infrastructure investment
Telstra has launched its new Perth–Sydney fibre route, designed to carry up to 35 times more data than conventional connections. The network will also provide connections to regional centres including Northam, Collie, Esperance and Kalgoorlie. A separate Perth–Adelaide coastal route is scheduled for completion by 2027–28.
08 - JOLIMONT
27-townhouse development proposed beside Matthews' Netball Centre
A development application has been lodged for 27 three-storey townhouses at 7 Allison Drive and 185 Salvado Road, Jolimont. The proposal includes 26 three-bedroom homes and one two-bedroom home, with seven designed for accessible living. Each townhouse would have a double garage but no dedicated visitor parking. Concerns have been raised about existing parking pressures associated with the nearby Matthews' Netball Centre. Public submissions close on 23 October 2026.
08 - KAMBALDA
Gold Fields acquires BHP's Kambalda nickel concentrator
BHP has agreed to sell its Kambalda nickel concentrator, commissioned in 1967, and surrounding mining tenements to Gold Fields for an undisclosed amount. The facility has been inactive since BHP suspended its WA nickel operations in October 2024. Gold Fields will assess its potential for future gold and nickel processing, with no immediate operational or workforce changes planned.

$9.3 million mixed-use development approved beside Napoli Park in Mindarie
The Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel has approved a $9.3 million, three-storey mixed-use development on Amalfi Avenue in Mindarie's Catalina Estate. The project comprises a proposed tavern, five commercial tenancies and six residential units adjoining Napoli Park. The revised development replaces an earlier $4.5 million commercial proposal approved in May 2026. Despite 39 public objections concerning traffic, residential density and a shortfall of 21 commercial parking bays, the panel supported the proposal. A parking management plan will be required to address potential congestion.

Council rejects Bedford Street rezoning proposal for up to 45 dwellings
The City of Nedlands has voted 7–2 against a proposal to rezone five residential lots on Bedford Street, between Dalkeith Road and Baird Avenue, from R10 to R40. The amendment would have permitted higher-density development accommodating approximately 20–45 dwellings. Councillors cited concerns about neighbourhood character, traffic, parking and the need to complete the city's local planning strategy review before considering further density increases.

$44 million Ferguson Lane apartment development approved at former Hollywood Village site
The Metro Inner North Development Assessment Panel has unanimously approved Ferguson Lane, a $44 million, six-storey apartment development within the Nedlands Reserve precinct. Developed by Human Urban, the building will contain 48 apartments, 102 basement parking bays and communal facilities, including dining areas, a lounge and outdoor recreation spaces. The development will occupy a 2,646m² site between Regis Nedlands and a proposed 5,900m² public park.
08 - SHENTON PARK
Shenton Quarter developer collapses with debts exceeding $150 million
The company behind the Shenton Quarter apartment and retail development entered administration in August 2026, with debts estimated to exceed $150 million. Receivers are seeking buyers for 20 retail premises, including the Coles-anchored shopping centre. The Supreme Court has granted administrators a six-month extension to investigate the company's financial affairs.
08 - SWANBOURNE
$3.4 million community park development closes Swanbourne coastal walking trail
The bushland walking trail connecting Melon Hill to Swanbourne Beach has been temporarily closed until March 2027 to allow construction of a $3.4 million community park opposite Sandcastles Children's Hospice. Works include new pathways, gathering spaces, garden beds and approximately 7,500 native plants. Perth Children's Hospital Foundation is funding the project and will be responsible for maintenance over the next 40 years under an agreement with the City of Nedlands.
08 - WANNEROO
Almost $3 million allocated to upgrade 39 parks and playgrounds across Wanneroo
The City of Wanneroo has awarded contracts worth almost $3 million to upgrade 39 parks across its suburbs, from Koondoola to Yanchep. Works include new playground equipment at 25 parks, rubber softfall at seven parks and shade sails at another seven. Improvements are planned for Cheltondale Park in Madeley, Banyandah Park in Wanneroo, Cherokee Park in Clarkson, Bryde Park in Alkimos, and Luminous and Heath parks in Eglinton. Nine contractors will undertake the works, which are expected to commence in late 2026 and continue over the following 12 months.

Five companies selected for proposed Western Defence Forge
The State Government has selected Babcock Australasia, Thales Australia, NIOA, Honeywell and a joint venture between OQ Technology and AROSE as the first five participants in its proposed Western Defence Forge manufacturing hub. Collie remains a potential location, although no site has been confirmed. The project aims to expand WA's defence manufacturing industry.
08 - WOODVALE
70-lot residential subdivision proposed for site of rejected $35 million Woodvale commercial centre
A subdivision application has been lodged with the Western Australian Planning Commission for 70 residential lots on a 3.5-hectare site at the corner of Woodvale Drive and Wanneroo Road. The proposed R30 development includes lots ranging from 262m² to 549m², approximately 3,580m² of public open space, internal roads and drainage infrastructure. The proposal follows the December 2025 rejection of the $35 million Woodvale Corner commercial development. The residential subdivision would require vegetation clearing, including some black cockatoo habitat, and remains subject to planning approval.

Dubai company proposes $333 million lithium acquisition
Dubai-based Titan Lithium has proposed a $333 million takeover of Global Lithium, including its Manna lithium project 110km east of Kalgoorlie. Production is expected to begin in mid-2027, with lithium concentrate to be exported to a new $2.8 billion refinery in the United Arab Emirates for electric vehicle battery production.

New Fremantle Traffic Bridge cost rises to $596 million
The cost of the new Fremantle Traffic Bridge has increased to $596 million, more than double its original $280 million estimate in 2022, due to rising material costs and design changes. Despite the increase, the bridge will open on 1 November 2026, at least six months ahead of schedule.

US-based developer Sentinel has listed its 3,000sqm Scarborough site for sale, abandoning plans for a 24-storey mixed-use development comprising 175 apartments and retail space. The site at 194 West Coast Highway and 7–17 Manning Street retains development approval until July 2030.

Cottesloe Beach shark barrier reinstalled for summer swimming season
The seasonal shark barrier at Cottesloe Beach has been reinstalled following delays caused by rough weather. Installation began on 12 October and was completed on 14 October 2026, with the barrier scheduled to remain in place until the end of April 2027. The Town of Cottesloe spends approximately $120,000 annually on its installation.

Western Power's proposed 24km transmission line faces opposition over route and environmental impacts
Western Power is progressing plans for a 24km, 132kV transmission line between Neerabup and Wangara, involving 171 steel poles approximately 20 metres tall. The route would pass through East Wanneroo, including the area between Lake Gnangara and Jandabup Lake. Residents and the City of Wanneroo are seeking an alternative alignment, citing environmental impacts and future residential development. The project proposes clearing 14 hectares of native vegetation. Subject to environmental approvals, construction could begin in early 2027 and finish by year's end.

$60 million, seven-storey apartment development approved in Jindalee
The Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel unanimously approved a $60 million, seven-storey residential development comprising 91 apartments at the corner of Jindalee Boulevard and Maritime Drive on 14 October 2026. Located within the Jindalee Coastal Village precinct, the proposal attracted 100 objections and eight supporting submissions. Residents raised concerns about building height, traffic, parking and limited community amenities. Despite exceeding the structure plan's wall-height limit, the panel supported the development, taking into account the site's sloping terrain and proposed building setbacks.

Arthur Fairall Playground to be demolished after structural safety concerns
The Arthur Fairall Playground at May Drive Parkland in Kings Park will be permanently demolished in October 2026 after an independent engineering assessment identified serious structural defects in its supporting poles. The playground, which has operated for more than 20 years, was deemed uneconomical to repair. The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority will undertake landscaping works following demolition and is developing a new playground master plan for the precinct.

Perth councils begin redirecting household waste to Kwinana Energy Recovery facility
The City of Stirling has become the first of five metropolitan councils to redirect household waste from Tamala Park landfill to the Kwinana Energy Recovery facility. Waste from up to 160,000 households across Stirling, Perth, Cambridge, Victoria Park and Vincent will progressively be transferred to the facility, which converts non-recyclable waste into energy and recovers reusable materials. Joondalup and Wanneroo will continue using Tamala Park until its expected closure in 2029.

New medical centre, radiology facility and pharmacy proposed for Landsdale
Plans have been lodged with the City of Wanneroo for a single-storey, 975m² medical centre incorporating radiology services and a pharmacy near the intersection of Gnangara Road and Priest Road, Landsdale. The proposal includes 59 parking bays and vehicle access from Pollino Gardens. The site was cleared in 2019 and previously received approval for a childcare and medical centre in 2021, although that development never proceeded. The latest proposal remains subject to development approval.

$5 million redevelopment proposed for The Sixty 30 tavern in Merriwa
WA hospitality group LocalsCo has lodged plans for a $5 million redevelopment of The Sixty 30 tavern on Baltimore Parade, Merriwa. The proposal includes a 555m² extension onto an adjoining vacant lot, a children's playground, beer garden, outdoor screen, landscaping, 44 additional parking bays and upgrades to the building's exterior and interior. The venue is expected to be renamed The Merriwa. Public submissions close on 22 October, with construction potentially beginning later in 2026 if approved.

City of Perth proposes reducing on-street parking in favour of pedestrians, cyclists and public transport
The City of Perth has proposed a new kerbside management policy that would prioritise pedestrian access, cycling routes, public transport and loading areas over private vehicle parking in selected locations. The policy divides the city into six zones, allowing parking priorities to vary according to local needs. The proposal will be considered by a council committee on 19 October 2026 before progressing to the full council for consideration.

A taxpayer-funded report into the proposed merger of Western Australia's universities has been criticised after numerous AI-generated errors were identified. The $166,000 report contained incorrect information, fabricated references and misleading claims, raising concerns about the research and review process.

Seasonal shark barrier being installed at Quinns Beach for summer
Contractors have begun reinstalling the seasonal shark barrier at Quinns Beach in the City of Wanneroo ahead of summer 2026–27. The barrier provides a protected swimming area used by local families and the Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club, which has approximately 700 children participating in its Nippers program. The installation follows renewed community concerns about shark safety after September's fatal attack at Sorrento Beach.

City of Stirling seeks developer for Scarborough Beach Gateway redevelopment
The City of Stirling is seeking expressions of interest to redevelop the southern portion of the 4,700m² Scarborough Beach Gateway site into a one or two-storey, family-friendly hospitality destination. The northern portion is earmarked for public recreation, sport and events. Both sites have remained vacant since the foreshore redevelopment was completed in 2018. Expressions of interest close on 18 November 2026, with detailed proposals expected to be sought in early 2027. No development has yet been approved.

New shark barrier investigation proposed alongside Sorrento foreshore redevelopment
Joondalup councillors have proposed renewed investigations into installing a non-lethal shark barrier at Sorrento Beach as planning continues for the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club and foreshore redevelopment. The beach's previous Eco Shark Barrier operated from 2016 to 2020 before being removed because of structural failures. The redevelopment itself is undergoing further planning after construction tenders exceeded budget estimates. Council is expected to vote on the shark safety proposals on 27 October 2026.

Construction begins on $78 million apartment development beside Regal Theatre
Construction has commenced on Westbridge's $78 million, nine-storey residential development at 484 Hay Street, Subiaco, following demolition of the existing building. The project will deliver 71 apartments and five ground-floor commercial tenancies. The developer will also fund improvements to the adjoining Regal Theatre, including accessibility lifts, additional toilets and a connecting passage to a new bar within the development.

East Wanneroo and orbital railway proposals progress through early infrastructure assessment
Infrastructure Australia has completed an initial assessment of two proposed additions to Perth's rail network. An East Wanneroo railway would connect the Morley–Ellenbrook and Yanchep lines, with proposed stations at Mariginiup and Gnangara. A separate orbital railway could connect Thornlie–Cockburn with Murdoch, Booragoon, UWA, Shenton Park, Stirling and Morley. Both remain long-term proposals requiring further feasibility studies, business cases and government investment decisions.

WA housing completions fall 14 per cent as $250 million apartment guarantee scheme opens
Western Australian dwelling completions fell 14 per cent to fewer than 20,000 during 2025–26, despite approximately 29,000 homes remaining under construction. The State Government has opened applications for its $250 million pre-sale guarantee scheme, intended to support construction of up to 1,200 apartments and townhouses. Housing Minister John Carey also highlighted alternative construction methods following the completion of 38 social homes built predominantly off-site.
