Specialist Medical Centre tops out
The Claremont Specialist Medical Centre has topped out, reaching its full structural height. Georgiou is constructing the Australian Development Capital project, with Paeds Plus and DermCo among its future medical tenants.

05 – PERTH
Electric ferry expansion progresses
The State Government progresses its $107 million Swan River ferry expansion, proposing five electric ferries linking Elizabeth Quay with new terminals at Matilda Bay and Applecross, with services planned every 25 minutes. 

08 – PERTH
Former Fast Eddy’s site recommended for redevelopment
A seven-storey development with 68 short-stay accommodation units and a ground-floor café is recommended for approval at 454 Murray Street. The project would involve demolition of the remaining former Fast Eddy’s site, which has been vacant for seven years.

09 – MURDOCH
Women and Babies Hospital rises above ground
Above-ground construction has begun on the new 274-bed Women and Babies Hospital in Murdoch, with first-floor works and jumpform systems underway. The project is using an accelerated construction sequence and modular building methods to reduce construction time.

10 – ALKIMOS
$32.7 million surf lifesaving club unveiled
The City of Wanneroo unveils plans for a $32.7 million two-storey surf lifesaving club at South Alkimos Beach, with patrol and training facilities, gym, kiosk, function spaces, commercial tenancy and lookout tower.

10 – CARRAMAR
St Stephen’s redevelopment approved
A $9.4 million redevelopment of St Stephen’s School is approved, including a 240-seat theatre and upgraded specialist facilities.

10 – CITY BEACH
Oban Road childcare centre refused
A proposed two-storey childcare centre on Oban Road is refused after opposition from Town of Cambridge planners and neighbouring medical professionals over noise and its potential impact on patients.

10 – EDGEWATER
Guzman y Gomez drive-through proposed
Plans have been lodged for a $2.3 million Guzman y Gomez drive-through restaurant on Joondalup Drive in Edgewater. The proposal is currently open for public consultation.

10 – MARGARET RIVER
Wildlife hospital to open
The State Government has committed $1.5 million towards the South West’s first dedicated wildlife hospital in Margaret River. The facility is expected to open in late October and will treat sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife while supporting WA’s bird flu response.

10 – PERTH CITY
Perth to host 2027 Rugby World Cup matches
Perth is expected to host up to six of the world’s top 10 teams during the 2027 Rugby World Cup, which is forecast to attract 250,000 international visitors and $1.3 billion in direct visitor spending.

10 – SUBIACO
Hay Street development approved
A $2.5 million commercial development on the former Santa Fe Restaurant site is approved, with a luxury furniture showroom, offices and 3m-high digital advertising sign.

10 – WEST PERTH
Sutherland Street Rail Bridge upgrade progresses
Planning is progressing for the $50 million upgrade of the 1913 Sutherland Street Rail Bridge, with Jacobs appointed to complete the detailed design. Construction is expected to begin in late 2027.

11 – EAST FREMANTLE
Woodside House aged care plans amended
Amended plans have been lodged for an aged care and wellness precinct centred around heritage-listed Woodside House. The project was approved in December 2023, with the amendment seeking a three-year extension to commence development.

11 – LANDSDALE
$13 million commercial centre redesigned
Changes to the planned East Landsdale commercial centre have been approved, including a significantly larger medical centre and new childcare centre. The Alexander Drive and Landsdale Road development was originally approved in January 2023.

11 – NORTHBRIDGE
Geisha Bar temporarily closed
Geisha Bar has temporarily closed after structural damage was discovered in part of the venue’s roof. The Northbridge nightclub, which has operated since 1999, will remain closed while the damage is assessed and repaired.

11 – PERTH
Retailers push for extended trading hours
Major retailers have renewed calls for WA’s restricted shopping hours to be relaxed, particularly Sunday trading. The State Government has rejected changes, arguing current restrictions help protect small businesses.

12 – CLAREMONT
Claremont RSL finds new home
Claremont RSL has secured a new home at Claremont Showground after four years without permanent premises following the closure of Claremont Bowling Club in 2022. The move also restores the RSL’s historic connection with the showground dating back to World War I.

Floreat Toy Library faces closure
Floreat Toy Library has refused a new two-year lease at its council-owned Lawler Park premises, saying increased City of Nedlands charges are unaffordable. The volunteer-run toy library has operated in Floreat under a shared lease arrangement for more than 40 years.

12 – FREMANTLE
Fremantle Traffic Bridge nearing completion
The new Fremantle Traffic Bridge could open before Christmas, earlier than its previous early-2027 schedule. The four major construction cranes, temporary jetties and bridge tower scaffolding have now been removed, with remaining works including sealing, asphalting, signage and street lighting.

12 – MATILDA BAY
Ferry terminal safety concerns raised
A marine safety expert has warned the proposed Matilda Bay ferry terminal could increase the risk of serious injury or death to vulnerable river users due to conflicts with ferries. He identified nearby Nedlands Jetty as a safer option, while the State Government says the risks can be appropriately managed.

12 – NEDLANDS
Three Points Bridge proposal revived
Nedlands mayor Leonie Browner has called for the shelved Three Points Bridge proposal to be reconsidered to help address future transport demand from increased housing density. The 1.5km pedestrian and cycling bridge linking Nedlands, Bicton and Mosman Park was first proposed in 2016 but never funded.

12 – NEDLANDS
Woolworths preparing to open at Captain Stirling
Woolworths is preparing to open its new Captain Stirling Shopping Centre supermarket by the end of September. The store will open about 900m from the long-running Taylor Road IGA, which has operated in Nedlands for 25 years.

12 – SWANBOURNE / WEST PERTH
Two ageing rail bridges to be replaced
The Congdon Street rail bridge in Swanbourne and Sutherland Street bridge in West Perth are set to be replaced at a combined cost of almost $90 million. Congdon Street works are expected to begin in 2027, while the $50 million Sutherland Street bridge is planned for installation in January 2028.
